UPDATED: Jackie Earle Haley Likely to Play Freddy Krueger in 'Nightmare' Remake
Sounds like some solid casting
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed this story with news the film starts lensing May 5 in Chicago.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting Jackie Earle Haley is in final talks to play Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake for New Line Cinema. This report confirms early chatter out of Latino Review back in February.
BD seems confident Haley, who recently played Rorschach in WB's Watchmen, will land the role for director Samuel Bayer. The remake/reboot will reintroduce the 1984 horror classic directed by Wes Craven and aims to keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Freddy Krueger himself.
Bloody Disgusting is also reporting Kyle Gallner (Haunting In Connecticut) is in final talks to play Quentin, the character played by Johnny Depp in the original.
The film is set for an April 16, 2010 release.
For those that haven't seen it yet, Latino Review also did a script review of the horror reboot back in late March. You can check that out directly below.

Forget Rorschach–apologies to fellow Watchmen fanboys– hands down Haley's best performance was in Little Children. He should do well if he gets this role–and the movie is done right.
Johnny Depps character in the original was not named Quentin…his name was Glen.
Okay, now that we know that. Who is gonna play Nancy???
@Brandon Hodge: I apologize, I should have clarified, it is the same character but he does have a different name from what I understand.
Say what you will about Watchmen as a film (I personally loved it), Haley was the highpoint by a mile. I was kinda pulling for Robert Knepper for Freddy but I have to admit that this is a great casting decision.
So is John Saxon going to be making a cameo appearance? I'll go see the movie if John Saxon is in it.
i think this movie will be great and has the ability to be a very gory movie which would be awsome!!! who agrees with me
@Mark: I just found out that rooney mara will play nancy but i have never heard of her so i have no idea if she can fit the role
