'Jack the Giant Killer' Trailer Looks Like Just another CG Money Pit
I feel like I've seen this hundreds of times
I saw the trailer for Jack the Giant Killer in theaters a couple of days ago in front of my screening of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and I can't say I was impressed. Perhaps it was a bad move to show it after the trailer for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island since both films look like they're CG money pits. As it played I had no idea what it was until the beanstalk sprout out of the ground and then my heart sort of sank as I thought to myself, This is what Bryan Singer has been working on?
Don't get me wrong, it could be great, but all the CG and it looks like it's a bunch of giants that look like the bathroom troll from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in something that looks like a Lord of the Rings rip-off. Of course, there is more to it as the newly released plot informs us:
Jack the Giant Killer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittinglyopens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend—and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
The film was written by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) and stars Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eleanor Tomlinson and Ewan McGregor and will hit 2D, 3D and IMAX theaters on June 15, 2012. Watch the trailer directly below and let me know if you plan on standing in line.
