Yeah, it's a big one. I'm sure you've heard of it.

Hellllll no.
although it wasn't bad, just not good.
thanks for posting these scripts Brad – I didn't read this one in print form, but I did for several others you posted and was grateful that that was available
I read the chunks I was curious about. What I think the Avatar script does well is describing the flora and fauna of the world without sounding too encyclopedic. One can understand that a Titanothere is a sex legged giant rhino with a hammer head shape. Just try and write a script explaining that sort of creature without killing the pace.
Sure, the dialog is nowhere near a Basterds or Hurt Locker but that's only a portion of what a script is for. All of the Pandora art direction started with the words on the page.
No way….well i can see Inglourious Basterds winning it….
are you out of your mind that movie was the best movie made in 2009 screw inglorious basterds
you know if this movie was made in the 80's im sure people would be much less critical about the script
@Abhishek-The Oscar Maniac: Ewwww…!
"A THANATOR. The most awesome land predator the universe has
ever conceived This thing could eat a T-rex and have the
Alien for desert."
that's pretty goofy to put into a script, then again it's james cameron and he can do whatever he wants i suppose.
@m1: I know, right?
@Arjuna: why? because scripts weren't as good in the 80s or something?
of course not. Cameron has never been known for his writing skills..look at Titanic, a rather dull love story saddled with the sinking of the ship. The guy does spectacle, special effects, sci-fi. He's all brawn, very little brain. While Avatar is great to look at and behold (it will win the visual effects Oscar), the film falls flat with the……you guessed it, the script. plodding, amateurish, predictable, and often silly.
@Dan Tralder: Well, I read the first chapter, and enjoyed it more than I expected to, but it will NOT win that award.
While I don't think the script reaches any artistic heights worth awarding, I do have to give James Cameron credit for being a very solid storyteller. Avatar may not be very original in terms of story, but it is very well built and well told… something few other blockbusters of recent times could claim. Star Trek, for instance, relies on charm and characters (admittedly far more fun than the characters in Avatar) to paper over some really rocky scriptwork when it comes to basic storytelling.
Cameron may not have a writer's soul, but he is a better storyteller than most in the blockbuster business.
It's better than Star Trek.
All that money for special effects, and not a dime for a script doctor. Never mind the politics of the piece, this is why Cameron and his over-hyped movie are so poor.
That would be cruelly unfair to see an average script like Avatar get a screenplay nomination, while The Dark Knight had a far superior script and didn't get nominated last year. Something just wouldn't be right in the movie world on that nominations morning.
Wall.E got an Oscar nom for 90 minutes of "Wall-eeee!!" and "Eeeevaaaa!!", so anything's possible!
However, Avatar's dialogue sounded like it was written by a teenage boy who's spent too much time playing Halo and World of Warcraft, so I sincerely hope not…
@miranda: Hey. That was a good script. Dialogue doesn't mean everything, you know.
If anyone enjoy of saying about James' work
maby you should make your own movie cuz you r sooo smart!
I think Avatar is a good movie
scirpt isn't every think but the way he make us enjoy his movie! that's more important.
NO WAY! IT'S AN IMPOSSIBILITY UNLESS OSCAR FOLKS HAVE ROCKS FOR BRAINS.
THERE SHOULD BE NO NOMINAION TO BOOT AS IT SIMPLY IS NOT GOOD!
I WOULD GO FOR "The Hurt Locker' or "Up in the Air,", but remember the Oscars give a screenplay for adaptation and one for original screenplay so with the ridiculous fortune's of AVATAR it's a shoe in for a nomination but will NOT win. I hate the fact that the earning of money counts so much in the winning of MAJOR AWARDS.
The Law of the Land……. The American Film Institute did not even put AVATAR on their 10 Best List. Three Cheers for the AFI.
James Cameron, as an added note, makes me want to pewk though he is Canadian as am I.
Not a good movie, period.
