International Trailer for Zellweger and Whitaker's 'My Own Love Song'
Is it Oscar bound?

I mentioned it in my preliminary Oscar contenders article and now Olivier Dahan's follows up to the Osca-winning La vie en rose has an international trailer. My Own and Only makes its way to French cinemas on April 4 and then the Tribeca Film Festival in late April and I also wouldn't be surprised to see it in the Cannes line-up once it's announced next month.
The film stars Renée Zellweger, Forest Whitaker, Madeline Zima, Nick Nolte, Chandler Frantz and Elias Koteas and tells the story of a wheelchair-bound former singer (Zellweger) and her friend (Whitaker) on a road trip to Memphis. Sounds like something the Academy loves to me. Check out the trailer directly below and The Playlist also found some clips if those interest you.
I have also added a gallery of 10 images to the film, which can be seen right here.

This trailer is both interesting and funny in not-quite-a-good way at the same time. On one hand, it looks like it has a great premise and some award-worthy performances. On the other hand, filling the score with Bob Dylan screams "Indie" in the worst way possible; and whenever Forrest Whittaker appeared, I couldn't help wondering, "Is he going to go 'full retard'?", which means it may be exactly the kind of movie "Tropic Thunder" was making fun of.
My opinion? At the most, it may manage to make a small splash in the indie circuit. Zellweger and Whittaker might even pull Oscar nominations. But the rest of the film will be ignored at the Oscars, even if it does turn out good.
Regardless of how you personally feel about Zellweger, the performance is Oscar bait type material. Whitaker in support as well. It's the kind of performance that the Academy nominates.
