International Trailer for Mike Leigh's Excellent 'Another Year'
One of the best films of the year so far

The Guardian has debuted the first trailer for Mike Leigh's excellent upcoming drama Another Year starring Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen and Lesley Manville. I saw this film at Cannes (my review here) and loved it. It was easily the best film I saw at the festival and has one of the best performances of the year in Manville's portrayal of Mary.
The story of Another Year revolves around the lives of married couple Tom and Gerri (Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen) and examines their lives and the lives of their friends around them as the trials and tribulations of aging weigh on the characters in the story.
This may be the best film I've seen all year, up there with the likes of Toy Story 3 and Inception and I currently have it listed as one of my anticipated Best Picture nominees. In fact, it's my current front-runner to take the top prize, though it's still too early to give that prediction much weight.
Give the trailer a watch below and if you're interested click here to read my review from Cannes.
Another Year was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics out of Cannes and will hit theaters on December 29 and will also be playing at Toronto in September where I may try and catch it again depending on my schedule. For more on the film, including the RopeofSilicon gallery of 11 images click here.

But you gave Inception and Toy Story A+ but this only got an A. Why is that?
I started the player and I got a Kardashians promo and I was like "SERIOUSLY? BRAD LIKED A MOVIE ABOUT THE KARDASHIANS?!"… and then the actual trailer started XD
I've been fortunate to have never seen anything involving the Kardashians… I feel blessed for that. :)
Tom and Gerri? LOL
That is the movie I most want to see!
Seriously??? This looks awful.
I trust your opinion Brad(even though you hated Anchorman)but all the same, I think I'll wait to catch it on Netflix.
IMO The Social Network and Tree of Life will be the frontrunners for Best Picture by far. Another Year I'm sure is a very good film, but it's never going to be financially successful, and it needs to. It also doesn't have the "quality war film directed by a woman" thing which helped The Hurt Locker tremendously. I may be wrong of course, but for now that's the way I see it.
Yes The Social Network seems to be the most well rounded contender to me. Director that is very over due, great writer, up-in-coming cast, timely, and seems to be doing well with critics (the two that have talked so far). Tree of Life is at the top… if it comes out this year.
Trailer isn't great but will defintely give this a watch when it comes out.
This year's 'An Education'?
i know on paper lesley manville has a "baitier" role, but from the trailer it looks like jim broadbent could sneak a nom.
I heard some good things about the film after Cannes. I have no interest in Oscar nominations, as they mean absolutely nothing. Looks like another fascinating drama by Leigh. Although it's hard to see from the trailer if this will be any different from the types of films he has made in the past. I will be awaiting my first watch of the film with interest.
THE MOST ANTICIPATED IMO ARE, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:
BLACK SWAN
127 HOURS
THE FIGHTER
THE SOCIAL NETWORK
LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS
HEREAFTER ( IF IT´S RELEASED WITHIN THIS YEAR )
SORRY BUT I DON´T SEE TREE OF LIFE GETTING ANY BUZZ…REMEMBER THE NEW WORLD, MALICK´S LATEST MOVIE?
