'Indiana Jones' Gets a Friday Box-Office Bump
A slight Friday surge may give Indy a new record to look at
Yesterday the record Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a bit of a stretch to even call it a record. "All-time Thursday Openers" sounds like more of a bullshit Guinness Book of World Records stat than an actual record, but after a modest $25 million on Thursday Crystal Skull saw a 23% bump up on Friday resulting in an estimated $30.8 million for Friday, which has Fantasy Mogul's Steve Mason now projecting a $148.24 million five-day total.
This new number puts that "All-time Thursday" record back in the warehouse and pulls the "All-time Five-Day Opener" record out of the box and the $148.24M number would put Indy 4 in the five slot just above Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($147.5) and just below Spider-Man 2 ($152.4).
However, it looks like Indy is going to have no chance of meeting our very own Box-Office Oracle's lofty $158.6 million 4-day total as the film is currently estimated to hit $123.2 million for the Memorial Day weekend.
As for the rest of the competition, Narnia looks to secure the #2 slot after a rather lackluster opening for the Disney sequel. Iron Man remains strong at #3 and #4 and #5 look to be the same as last week with What Happens in Vegas and Speed Racer.
