'I Am Legend' is Moving Forward
Francis Lawrence tapped for helming duties.
I seem to have a much greater appreciation and liking for Francis Lawrence's feature film debut, Constantine, than most, which is why news that he will be helming the big screen adaptation of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend" has me so giddy.
I Am Legend is described by Amazon.com as "one of the most influential vampire novels of the 20th century." The story is described by Tor Books as the following:
From out of the night came the living dead with one purpose: destroy Robert Neville, the last man on earth. A mysterious plague has swept the planet leaving in its wake this one survivor. But there is still life of a sort–vampires, the strengthless half-dead who press on Neville from every side. He is almost tempted to join them in I AM LEGEND.
The film is set up over at Warner Bros. and Lawrence is currently supervising a rewrite of Mark Protosevich's script.
The story has been on the big screen twice, both times under a different name. Vincent Price starred in the 1964 pic The Last Man on Earth, and Charlton Heston toplined The Omega Man.
Lawrence and producers are currently eyeing a 2006 start.
