'Hurt Locker' Leads Pack with Four Wins at 2009 Satellite Awards
Is Streep now the Best Actress front-runner?
The winners of the 2009 Satellite Awards were announced and The Hurt Locker was again the big winner with four awards including Best Picture (Drama), Director for Kathryn Bigelow, Actor (Drama) for Jeremy Renner and Film Editing. Precious won for Supporting Actress (Mo'Nique) and Adapted Screenplay while Christoph Waltz continued to rack up Supporting Actor awards for his turn in Inglourious Basterds.
Perhaps most surprising to me is the continuous stream of victories for Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia, again, not because I didn't like her performance, but up until the critical awards began being announced Carey Mulligan in An Education was the clear front-runner. However, I am beginning to think the tide has turned and Streep's excellent turn as Julia Child may be able to take home the Oscar.
I have listed the complete batch of winners below, take a peek and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments.

I'm so effin' happy that Neustadter and Weber are finally getting some recognition for (500) Days' screenplay. Best script of the year, to me it's even better than the Basterds'. I would love for the guys to win an Oscar, I know it's highly unlikely, but they really should get as much recognition as possible.
Visual effects – 2012? I lol'd at that. Ridiculous. Also, what the hell is The Stoning of Soraya M. and who the hell is Shohreh Aghdashloo?..
@ Nick:
Wow, you really dont know who this woman is?! Nor the movie? you must be really young or have never seen her brillant acting in the 24 series or "The House of Sand and Fog, sad.
@Azreal71: I am young, and I've never seen neither 24 nor House of Sand and Fog… well, nobody's perfect. But "The Stoning…" is now on my radar.
BTW, I don't really understand your shock. It's not like I'm asking who the hell Meryl Streep is or anything…
I think it will be very difficult to overtake Meryl Streep this year. She was in a very popular movie. She has received some of her best critical reviews for playing beloved icon Julia Child. There is no “Helen Mirren” type sweep with Best Actress this year. There is no sentimental favorite standing in her way. Her strongest competition (Carey Mulligan, Gabourey Sidibe) are Hollywood unknowns. And the Academy was bound to give her a 3rd Oscar at some point.
I could see it going to either Streep or Mulligan at this point. They both have very different reasons why someone would vote for them.
why is Nine winning awards if it has such a bad rotten tomatoes rating? Good movies should be winning
Waltz appears to be sweeping all the best supporting actor awards!
Sort of off-topic, but how is Woody Harrelson's NBR-winning performance in The Messenger completely absent from the Supporting Actor list in The Contenders?
@Murdock: Not off topic at all, I could have sworn I added him a couple weeks back, but obviously he's not on there. I am doing an update tonight that will be posted late or tomorrow morning. He will definitely be a part of it (although not top five). Thanks for keeping me on my toes.
I had never heard of "The Stoning of Soraya M.", but I think Shohreh Aghdashloo is a tremendous actress. She should've won that Oscar for "House of Sand and Fog". I'm glad she's having relevant roles again, after small roles in "The Lake House", "X-Men 3" and stuff like that.
It is surprising to see Renner beat out Firth and Bridges, but the rest of the choices aren't too shocking.
