Tonight during the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Lionsgate premiered the first The Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer, giving fans of the franchise their first look at the second film in the franchise that lit up the worldwide box-office last March with $691+ million for The Hunger Games.

The follow-up begins as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow (Donald Sutherland) prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters on November 22, check out the trailer below.

I really did not care for the first one. Will be passing on the sequels.

I was slightly disappointed in The Hunger Games and was generally 'eh' about Catching Fire's release, but I will admit the trailer has turned up my excitement level a little bit. If anything, I just want more of Donald Sutherland and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Yea I'm looking forward to their scenes together as well.

I'll be checking this one out for sure, but I don't know how I'll feel about it in the long run.

Also, WHY THERE BE NO CRAZY HAIR ON HOFFMAN? I would've loved to see that.

Is this really breaking news worthy?

You're kidding me, right?! Ok, maybe not for critical cinema, but after $691 million for Hunger Games, you better believe that it's breaking news! I'm just sayin'...

Hoffman my favorite current actor. Maybe I'll catch this on cable some time.

The first one was decent, so I'll probably check this one out. The trailer, however, wasn't particularly impressive.

Cool, could be better than the first. With the addition of Hoffman and Lawrence coming off her first Oscar win, the cast on this one is great.

Not a great trailer, but I really liked the first one and am looking forward to this.

I read somewhere that they have pretty much shot by shot lifted Battle Royale 2 for this part

    • Shane O’Neal

      Don't start that again.

Looks good to me. Speaking of the MTV Awards, I did watch them for entertainment, but Rebel Wilson was a nightmare with her B.J & pubic jokes. It was probably the most -cringe-inducing MTV Movie Awards I've seen.

That's whats up. I enjoyed the book and looking forward to seeing this.

It looks so good and I loved that it don't show anything about the Quarter Quell. I read the book but still I want to be surprised when I see the movie. Catching Fire is my favorite book of the trilogy and can't wait to see the movie!

I am a huge lover of this book series. As to the quality of the trailer, any taste of this up coming film I can get is a bonus!I thought the first film was a wonderful adaptation to the book. Catching fire is a wonderfully spun tale of an oppressed society grasping onto a spark of hope. I am counting the days (221 to be exact!!)

Me too. I can not WAIT for this movie. The book was my favorite in the trilogy, and as much as I loved Gary Ross's vision of the first film, I think that Frances Lawrence has given a much darker tone to the film. The trailer reminded me in some points of a war movie, such as the scenes of rebellions in the multiple districts. But, that's OK, because in escence, the first third of the book IS somewhat of a war story /thriller. I think with Catching Fire, the books deffinately get far more political than the first one. And to me, that's the biggest issue people have with Mockingjay, and the reason that I love it. It's insanely political. I think that this film is going to be successful, and not just with the teen crowd. In case you can't tell, this is my most anticipated movie of 2013.

About Mockingjay, I agree 100%. I kept expecting to be disappointed based on what others said about the book. But it was perfect really...
I have this at the top of my most anticipated list of 2013 as well. Not necessarily the best film, but the most anticipated.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/lalecture/ lalecture

      Battle? What battle?!! ;-p Shhh...
And yes, I think hush and and on the down low about the quarter quell.
