'House of Wax' Helmer Waxes 'Vurdalak'
There are warlords, but are there dragons?
Variety is reporting that House of Wax remake helmer Jaume Collet-Serra is set to direct Vurdalak for Spanish producer Andres Vicente Gomez's RadioPlus.
The film is described as a neo-medieval tale of vengeance between bloodthirsty warlords centered on the character Safet, who survives his family's massacre at the hands of Prince Verjik and, corroded by hate, becomes a living dead "Vurdalak." What a bitch eh? The hope is to attract some videogame attention as well as make a movie, always a positive thing to think about spin-offs before even finalizing the script.
Speaking of script, Collet-Serra turned in a first draft, and San Francisco's Massive Black studio has started pre-visualizations and digital design.
So far it sounds like this is all wishful thinking since Gomez says he wants to shoot in 3-D "but 3-D film production is not totally developed as yet," and they haven't even secured financing. However, Variety says that the videogame potential is especially attractive in Spain. So, fingers crossed everyone! With a drop in DVD sales it seems Spain has turned to focusing on an 18% increase in videogame sales.
The only truly negative in this news is there is no mention of dragons. Shucks!
