'Horton' Hears a Second #1 Box-Office Weekend
The animated film is still dominating
No huge surprises this weekend, outside of the fact that our Oracle appears to have estimated too low on every title, almost seeming to haev counted it as a two-day instead of three-day weekend, but that's okay as it looks like he may end up nailing the top five if not the top seven or eight when things are said and done.
However, a quick peek at Friday's numbers shows us that Horton Hears a Who is certainly going to win its second weekend in a row as it managed $11.3 million yesterday, on its way to an estimated $28.15 million. A very good Good Friday showing.
Tyler Perry continues to keep the middle-aged women happy as his latest effort Meet the Browns looks to become his fourth best opening earning $7.7 million on Friday on its way to an estimated $20.1 million for the weekend and an anticipated second place showing.
Two films I can only assume are equally terrible are Drillbit Taylor and Shutter. Paramount had the balls to screen Drillbit, which was awful, and Fox didn't have the balls (they never do) to screen Shutter until 9PM on Thursday night (I skipped it, and no, a 9PM screening doesn't count). Both films will most likely crack the $10 million mark and will be battling it out for the third and fourth spots.
The only other release I want to bring up is Universal's Doomsday, which earned $745k on Friday and is expected to actually miss the top ten in its second weekend being narrowly edged out by The Other Boleyn Girl. What a shame, I really had high hopes for Neil Marshal's follow-up to The Descent, but it looks like we will have to wait a little longer for his next great film.

- Doomsday (Universal) – $745,000
