Have You Heard of 'The Cove'?
Some waters you won't want to dive in
Roadside Attractions recently picked up the Sundance documentary The Cove and just set a July 31 limited release for it. I remember watching the trailer for this feature prior to the start of Sundance and was just about as shocked as the people featured in it. So, obviously the trailer below isn't new and neither are the 20 pics I just added to the gallery but since I hadn't written about it specifically yet I figured what better time than now to give you a little look-see?
I have added the synopsis below the trailer, but for full effect I suggest you don't read it until after watching the video.
In the 1960's, Richard O'Barry was the world's leading authority on dolphin training, working on the set of the popular television program Flipper. Day in and day out, O'Barry kept the dolphins working and television audiences smiling. But one day, that all came to a tragic end. The Cove, directed by Louie Psihoyos, tells the amazing true story of how Psihoyos, O'Barry and an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers embarked on a covert mission to penetrate a hidden cove in Japan, shining light on a dark and deadly secret. The mysteries they uncovered were only the tip of the iceberg.
The Cove, an intelligent/action/adventure/Ocean’s Eleven-like horror film wrapped around a tale of redemption and ultimate revenge – oh, and it’s a documentary.

I saw this movie at The Sundance Film Festival and was shocked that something like this could be going on in such a large scale. I hope with the release of this movie the cove will be shut down. I praise all involved in putting this movie together and putting their own lives on the line to get in and document whats really going on in the cove. This will be a real eye opener about what is being done to many Dolphins in Japan each year!
this is very inhamane, disturbing, repulsive, digusting…these people have no consideration for other creatures…while we have the power to do what we want that doesn't mean we should exploit dolphins..think about the future generations…they are not pests..why is there a proposed argument about "pest control"…additionally..dolphin meat is high in mercury..food poisoning…why are we poisoning people? why is the meat labelled as "whale" when packaged for selling and distribution? This is not only unethical business practice but false advertising…why did the japanese government "bribe" other countries into validating and approving these practices? It is wrong people..wake up..stand for what is right!!! Something needs to be done
