one of the best endings ever

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Ryguy815/ Ryguy815

Yes the ending was good but the movie itself was rather mediocre overall.

      • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/andyluvsfilms/ andyluvsfilms

i agree with you on that and naturally i didnt enjoy Room 237 either, can't win them all i guess

        • http://themoviegurusblog.blogspot.com The Movie Guru

That's too bad. I just rewatched the last half of The Shining this weekend and I remembered why it's one of my favorite movies. Kubrick was a genius. Gone too soon.

          • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/andyluvsfilms/ andyluvsfilms

Clockwork Orange is one of mine, the first time i watched it i put it on later the same day, the music just freaked me out haha

            • http://themoviegurusblog.blogspot.com The Movie Guru

I love 2001 as well, so that's two Kubrick's in my top 25 of all time. Haven't seen Clockwork Orange yet, however. Too disturbing for my tastes.

          • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Hudsucker/ Hudsucker

For me it's either Strangelove or The Killing.

            • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/andyluvsfilms/ andyluvsfilms

ummmm..I didnt like 2001 either im afraid, haha dont judge me brother

              • http://themoviegurusblog.blogspot.com The Movie Guru

I will never fight anyone who says they didn't like 2001. It's a very odd, esoteric film that takes multiple viewings and a lot of time patience to appreciate.

Plus, it's just a wacked-out film. I can understand why anyone didn't like it. I didn't enjoy it the first time I saw it. But through multiple viewings, I have fallen under its spell.

              • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Hudsucker/ Hudsucker

I liked 2001, just I love these more. Also, to me 2001 feels like a lesser Tree of Life. (which I absolutely love)

Nice... Brad when you gonna post The Way, Way Back review? I think 4th of July would be perfect date to do it. That's what's the stories about right?

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/ Brad Brevet

      Tomorrow.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Ryguy815/ Ryguy815

Just curious since I'm not American so I don't really know, why do you celebrate the 4th of July?

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Hudsucker/ Hudsucker

      Independence baby!

      • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Ryguy815/ Ryguy815

        Thank you for the help!

Hello Brad and happy 4th of July. Long time lurker. I have been enjoying your podcast for while and felt I had to share this song with you after the last couple of podcasts. For your ears only.

A deserved 5 star review on Itunes is waiting in the wings - but only if you give this a try. You'll love it. Trust me. Best song EVER! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD-kdUCcTRA)

Such an odd film... very atmospheric... I've seen it only twice but I'm sure I'll see it many, many more times...

Good movie - like most Kubrick films they get better and better everytime you watch them. Happy 4th of July everyone.

  • http://letterboxd.com/gman/ G-Man

    Spoiler alert! :p

    One of my favorite movies.

    Happy Independence Day, all!

  • http://letterboxd.com/gman/ G-Man

    What's everyone watching today?

Currently watching the Hot Dog Eating contest on ESPN then gonna try to finish up Skyfall and maybe throw in Independence Day if I've got time.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Ryguy815/ Ryguy815

I'm going to watch Safe (it's a movie starring Jason Statham), The Amazong Spider-Man, and I was thinking about throwing in Independance Day later as well because I've owned it for about a year and I still haven't seen it yet.

    • http://www.twitter.com/GregDinskisk GregDinskisk

Thinking about throwing in Kill Bill, everyone's favorite Patriotic film!

      • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Jake17/ Jake17

Actually, I might do the same thing, or maybe Blue Velvet later tonight. I already watched Mulholland Drive, which WHAT. THE. FUCK.

        • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/andyluvsfilms/ andyluvsfilms

I watched Blue Velvet for the first time last week, friggin' awesome, Dennis Hopper at his Hoppiest

    • http://couchpotatodigest.blogspot.com Matt

My my brother and I watch "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" every Fourth of July for some reason neither of us can explain. It's my favorite action movie though, so I always look forward to it.

      • http://letterboxd.com/gman/ G-Man

Always a fantastic choice and one of (if not) my favorite action movies of all-time.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Corbin/ Corbin

I already saw Much Ado About Nothing today, and I'm hoping that I can see Independence Day today as well.

    • Adam James

I tune in for Cagney in "Yankie Doodle Dandy" pretty much every year.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Kessler/ Kessler

Saw The Lone Ranger today. And all this talk about Independence Day makes me want to revisit it as well.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Mv11391/ Michael

Happy 4th of July everybody, happy birthday America!! I'll probably be watching some Woody Allen flicks i've yet to see this week and hopefully, Despicable Me 2 soon. Have a great day everybody, yessir!

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Jake17/ Jake17

Nice post. One of my favorite movies, and one of the greatest endings.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Hudsucker/ Hudsucker

I saw The Tree of Life. Not sure why, saw it for the first time. It's now either my favorite or 2nd. (Wrestling with it or The Bicycle Theif.)

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/andyluvsfilms/ andyluvsfilms

Oh i saw The Bicycle Thief for the first time this week, i loved the emotion and the drama in the film plus the little boy was fantastic

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Hudsucker/ Hudsucker

You know the actor grew up to be a math teacher.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/TheJackal/ The Jackal

I'm still reeling from that ending. It was like the realization that Bruce Willis is a ghost or that Vader was Luke's father. Brad, you should consider doing a feature about the greatest endings of all-time.

    Thems the facts
