Guillermo del Toro Confirmed to be Directing 'The Hobbit'
Finally, we can rest easily
Fans of Guillermo del Toro's more personal efforts are going to have to wait about 3-4 years as Variety confirms Del Toro will indeed direct The Hobbit and it's sequel.
The New Line-MGM tentpole was confirmed today by exec producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, New Line president Toby Emmerich and Mary Parent, the newly named chief of MGM's Worldwide Motion Picture Group.
How major is this for Del Toro? Well, he will be moving to New Zealand for the next four years to work with Jackson and his Wingnut and WETA production teams. He'll direct the two films back to back, with the sequel which will deal with the 60-year period between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, the first of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
Happy now or upset now? Would you prefer more Pan's Labyrinth style films from Del Toro or is The Hobbit something you have dreamed of seeing, especially with Del Toro at the helm?
