Great Stephen King Novella Getting Feature Adaptation

I worry this one won't make it to theaters

I have wanted to see an adaptation of "Dolan's Cadillac" ever since I read the novella in Stephen King's "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" and I was frustrated it wasn't part of TNT's collection of films made for the mini-series two years ago. However, it looks like it is finally going to get its due. Too bad it's with a B-rate cast and will probably never make it beyond direct-to-DVD status.

Christian Slater, Wes Bentley and Emmanuelle Vaugier are set to star in the adaptation for director Erik Canuel from an adaptation penned by Richard Dooling. Canuel has made nothing of note outside of directing a couple of episodes of USA's "Dead Zone" and Dooling did a little writing for the awful King mini-series "Kingdom Hospital" which is best left forgotten.

As for "Dolan's Cadillac" this kick-ass mood piece is about a man (Bentley), who plots to avenge the murder of his wife (Vaugier) by notorious and untouchable Las Vegas mob boss Jimmy Dolan (Slater). If you have never read it it's worth the read.

The prospect of a film based on the novella has been around for quite some time. Stax at IGN even did a script review seven years ago. Even last year I wrote about Dennis Hopper taking on the role of James Dolan. Back then production was supposed to start in April 2007. That didn't happen.

I can't believe they cast Slater as Jimmy Dolan. While I was a fan of his in the past (the 80's), he just dosen't make sense as that character. I wasn't the biggest fan of this particular King book, I did enjoy this story and think Slater might have fit better as the broken man, or even as one of the many doubters he met along the way.
