'Great Gatsby' Visual Effects Reel Prove Its a Contender

My first batch of 2014 Oscar predictions in the Best Visual Effects category placed Baz Luhrmann's effects-heavy The Great Gatsby in the #7 slot, but after seeing Man of Steel and watching this visual effects reel for the film I couldn't help but nudge Superman out and move Jay Gatsby in.

Give it a look and see what you think and browse my updated Visual Effects predictions here.

As if Lana Del Rey didn't already show up enough in movie itself! :)

I guess that's how you spend $150 plus million dollars (before rebates and incentives of course!) and why visual pics have ever increasing budgets associated with them.

Honestly while it is impressive it just adds to me being negative on the film because of how fake it felt to me. I still love the Lana Del Rey song and hope to hear her name oscar nomination morning.

I felt the same way. It was just trying to do too much and it was painfully obvious watching the film in theaters. It's impressive work, no doubt, but it didn't make the final product better for me personally

That was done on purpose though. U agree parts of it was just too fake but overall it wasn't blinding to the eye.

    Wow, that's impressive.

Definitely a gorgeous looking film. I'm just so mad at the Baz because it could have been a masterpiece if a little more leveled.

My favorite movie of the year so far.

Really impressive. I still think that Lana Del Rey's song is better than the movie itself.
