The Golden Globe 2008 Black Out

I am guessing off as the room will be empty

I wonder what the Golden Globe broadcast would be like with absolutely no one in the audience? Unfortunately it seems this will be a reality should the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decide to go ahead with the award show set to air on NBC on Sunday, January 13. A rather large bombshell was dropped today when Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg made the following announcement:

After considerable outreach to Golden Globe actor nominees and their representatives over the past several weeks, there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA picket lines to appear on the Golden Globe Awards as acceptors or presenters. We applaud our members for this remarkable show of solidarity for striking Writers Guild of America writers.

We have also been asked about our position regarding network talk shows. We urge our members to appear on the two programs that have independent agreements with the WGA, The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. However, actors who are asked to appear on the struck network talk shows will have to cross WGA picket lines, creating the same situation that has led to the consensus among actors to skip the Golden Globes.

As I have said since this strike began on November 5th, we must stand united with our brothers and sisters at the WGA.

So, now that the talent won't be showing up what can you do? The HFPA is asking themselves that very question over the weekend as they issued this response:

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been placed in an extremely difficult position with the ongoing Writers Guild strike. We are making every effort to work out a solution that will permit the Golden Globes to take place with the creative community present to participate. We hope to announce a resolution to this unfortunate predicament on Monday.

There is only one resolution… No Golden Globes and it is a shame as we here at RopeofSilicon look forward to not only the Oscars each year (those could be in serious jeopardy as well), but also the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. We live blog those bad boys and report the winners live as well. Unfortunately this year we may be forced to live blog what we are doing instead of the Golden Globes… Guaranteed not to be as interesting unless we finally invite those hookers over…

Great. The year that my two favorite movies of the year are front runners, no one's gonna be at the party. I think Hollywood hates me.

So Sad! The Globes are/were my favorite of the award shows because you'd have celebs from both Movies and TV all sitting around getting drunk and then trying to make speeches.
