GANGSTER Pic Gets No Respect
Fuqua just can't get what he wants made...
With Antoine Fuqua leaving the pic on ly a couple of days ago you would have never thought that a film set to star Denzel Washington and Benicio Del Toro would get cancelled, but wonders never cease to exist as American Gangster has been officially shelved.
Apparently the search for a new director looked as if it would only increase the already $80 million budget and was the ultimate reason for calling it quits.
Universal was looking for a director that may be able to take the hardcore crime film and give it a bit of a more commercial appeal, which also had to play a part in Fuqua's departure as his work had already been toned down in Touchstone's summer release King Arthur.
