Frank Miller is In 'The Spirit'
Sometime Batman scribe adapts another vigilante detective
I vaguely recall there being a rumor to this before and now it looks like a deal has finally been inked. Frank Miller will adapt and direct The Spirit for Lionsgate and Odd Lot Entertainment. From Michael Fleming's Variety story:
The Spirit is a man who fakes his own death so he can fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His nemesis is the Octopus, who kills those unlucky enough to see his face and is looking to wipe out the entire city … the production start of "The Spirit" will be influenced by the start date of the "Sin City" sequel that Miller will make with Rodriguez.
I remember very little of the comic book, mainly because I never owned an issue. But it isn't surprising that Miller has a fondness for the material. There is a very Batman-like quality to the story. Both are vigilantes. Both have a detective-like approach. Hopefully we'll be hearing more about this at the San Diego Comic-Con.
