Fox Wants a Scott for the 'Alien' Prequel, Pixar Wants More 'Monsters' and Craven Talks 'Scream'

There is a huge load of garbage news streaming around the Internet at the moment, all of it hardly worth the digital ink it is printed in, but some of it is just hard for film fans to ignore so here is a brief rundown of what's going on as of late.
First off, thanks to the latest news of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen heading into IMAX theaters Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has had its IMAX release date pushed to July 29. Fans need not worry, and I assume no one will really care, as the regular theatrical release is still slotted for July 15.
Next comes a brief note from MTV in which Robert Rodriguez tells the music website he hopes to start shooting his live-action The Jetsons feature "next year." This production has been around for some time and Rodriguez says, "We're writing the script right now."
The Rodriguez train continues in talking about the Predators reboot that was recently announced along with rumors Arnold Schwarzenegger's character from the original would be featured in some way. Rodriguez squashes such a rumor telling AICN, "We’re still writing a new script, and although I know Arnold personally and he’s the coolest person on the planet, I have not contacted him about this at all at this time."
The Playlist is reporting secondhand news from their Entertainment Weekly which discusses the recently talked about Alien prequel feature Ridley and Tony Scott are setting up with Carl Rinsch directing. However it appears Fox isn't interested in Rinsch and they want Ridley back at the helm. Rinsch, who is apparently involved romantically with Ridley's daughter Jordan, may be falling into the same situation Peter Jackson and his protege Niell Blomkamp fell into with Halo at Universal. I mean, who wants the understudy if you can net the big kahuna?
The new Scream trilogy is still being talked about with Digital Spy catching up with director Wes Craven. The original Scream helmer tells the site, "Bob Weinstein (The Weinstein Company co-chairman) has talked to me, he’s interested in me directing it. I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I’ve said to Bob is I’m not closed to it, I’m not open to it, I’ll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That’s where it’s at and I’m not expecting a script until August. I don’t know what the premise is or anything."
Top top the Scream talk off, last week after running a story on the new films I received an email from someone claiming to be Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson saying, "No remake — it's a brand new trilogy that involves all of the surviving characters and lots of new ones." Someone claiming to be Williamson said something similar on Twitter. I never reported it because there is no way to verify, but since it was brought up over at SlashFilm I thought I would add my own bit on it to the mix.
Next comes a small bit of news from Jim Hill Media reporting from the Las Vegas International Licensing Fair saying a Monsters, Inc. sequel is being planned. What else is there to the story? Nothing.

@kylec: Yeah, that story doesn't seem too legit just yet. Gonna wait on some sort of official word.

do they really think anything Alien or Predator related can still make money? Haven't the AVP movie and it's sequel proven that false yet?
@JAB: Sorry, but the AVP movies were not " Alien or Predator " related. A little more discernment must take place, than simply reading the titles.

I really hope so. I'm not really sure it is true though. The decision to make a sequel was before it only made like $25 mil in the U.S. box office (don't know how accurate that is). But they have talked about it being called Dragonball; Reborn. With better advertising and a lower budget ($20-$30 mil), I still think they will.
@JAB: I hate to agree with you, but I will consent that Fox has totally destroyed the reputations of two of their longstanding franchises – unfortunately, it wasn't AVP or its sequel which started that trend: Predator 2, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection ensured that the series would sink into the mud and never rise again.
HOWEVER:
When I hear that none other than, Ridley Scott, the creator of Alien and Rob. Rodriguez, director of Sin City, are going to try to resurrect the franchises – I'm interested.
