Fox Ready to Snatch Up 'Narnia' Sequel

Bad move in my opinion...

I think the fact The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe made $291.7 million and the sequel, Prince Caspian, only made $141.6 million is enough for me to say Disney was justified in bailing on the Narnia franchise before it became a major loser. To top it off Lion/Witch/Wardrobe was made on a budget of $180 million, which ballooned to $215 million for Caspian.

So, even though the proposed budget on the third film in the franchise, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, is said to be $140 million I still don't see it as a risk worth taking considering the farther down the Narnia line you get the more obscure the titles become when it comes to the general public. However, it appears Fox is ready to split costs with Walden Media and move forward with the third flick reports Variety.

Walden and Fox are still working on the budget as well as the script and aim for a 2010 holiday release. Variety uses a comparison with Fox's 2006 release Eragon and it does seem a good comparison considering the awareness of the later books in the "Narnia" stories when compared to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

There is a theory Prince Caspian is the least commercial of the Narnia stories, which makes me wonder how they were able to turn an uncommercial story into a two hour and 20 minute movie. Word is Voyage of the Dawn Treader gets "back to the magical aspects present in the first Narnia pic but mostly absent from Prince Caspian." I have no idea what this means considering the White Witch was in both films, talking animals were in both films as were plenty of other magical characters. Both seem pretty damn magical to me.

Good idea or bad idea it looks like it will probably happen. Michael Apted is still aboard to direct and Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley are reprising their roles as Caspian, Edmund and Lucy, respectively. Also joining the cast is Will Poulter (Son of Rambo), who will portray Eustace Clarence Scrubb.

Filming is expected to move from the Fox studios in Mexico to Australia because of concerns for the drug violence and kidnappings that are taking place near Baja.

I`m so dissapointed by Price Caspian. Somehow, I love Lion, Witch, and The Wardrobe, eventhough i thought it`s kind of kids movie. But as "big" as Prince Caspian was….. I simply less liking it, than the first installment. (I never read any Narnia books)….
The acting is weird, no chemistry between Pevensie`s, Caspian not convincing as a "Prince",
    and the climax just dissapointing…
I hope The Dawn Treader will be much better….. I hope Fox doesn`t ruined it since Eragon is somewhat mediocre- big movie – epic wannabe.

I'm glad that Fox has taken over from Disney. I think we'll be treated to quite a few more quality, Narnia films (at least, I hope so).

I was really impressed with the first one, the second just couldn't deliver the same …eh… magic.
Still wouldn't mind seeing a third one.
I've never read the books but from what I understand it's pretty good source material.

I think they were talking about the focus on the politics of the human Telmarines in the Prince Caspian movie when they mentioned about the magical aspects of Lion/Witch/Wardrobe. L/W/W was much more conventional and much more pure as a fantasy movie(which apparently means more family friendly, especially kid friendly) as opposed to PC. I guess they are blaming the Telmarine storyline for PC's disappointing performance.

    This is really good news.
I enjoyed both Narnia films, the first one more than the second, because it was closer to the book.
"The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is a great book, one of my favourites in the series. I hope the film will be a huge succes!!
    Thanks, Fox and Walden!

    Here was Prince Caspian:
1st half–AMAZING. Just simply effing amazing.
2nd half–Dragged. Too much battle, too many special effects, too much cliche.

If the 2nd half had been like the first, I'd have watched this film more than once in theaters, and I'd be considering buying the DVD in the very near future. But sadly, such is not the case.

I'd like to see the 3rd one made. I will go see it in theaters when it comes out. I'm just worried about the director (who doesn't have much to his credit) and the studio (Fox screwed up every single movie they released in 2008, except for "Horton Hears a Who!")

This franchise sucks. I have never hated animals so much in my life as I did while watching these stupid movies!

I think people need to stop making fantasy movies modeled after the lord of the rings trilogy. CGI battle sequences will only ever work for peter jackson. And hopefully for the new hobbit. The last 2 narnia's looked just like LOTR clones. I never read narnia, and those movies look awful. People need to understand if you are going to tackle something as epic as LOTR and Chronicles of Narnia that you HAVE TO HAVE GOOD DIRECTING. You can't just assign random bullshit shit directors and expect your movie to fly, unless you were only in it for cashing in on peoples nostalgia and fanboyism.

i enjoy this franchise. If they make a third I will see it, if not I wont lose sleep.

You facts are a bit off; Disney didn't pull out because they didn't believe in the film financially; it had to do with Walden being to pushy and Disney not appreciating it.

    @Tim:

I can guarantee you no one was trying to duplicate Lord of the Rings. If obviously never actually seen the Narnia movies, because if you had you'd realize that they are NOTHING like Lord of the Rings, and they aren't meant to be. The books were written as children's books (although they appeal to a wide range of people now).
