Four New Clips from 'Inception'
Everyone's raving and here's a short peek at what they're talking about
So, if you haven't heard, Christopher Nolan's Inception hits theaters next Friday, July 16 and the early reviews are out and they are all out raves. I say this based on only what I've heard since I am not going to read them in hopes of maintaining a fresh approach to the movie (I see it on the Monday the 12th), or as fresh as possible considering I run a movie news website and can't help but avoid seeing a trailer here and hearing small doses there.
This attempt at avoidance also means I haven't read the two review snippets (via SlashFilm) or watched any of the four new clips I just added and have included directly below.
"A devilishly complicated, fiendishly enjoyable sci-fi voyage across a dreamscape that is thoroughly compelling." … "Inception puts him not only at the top of the heap of sci-fi all-stars, but it also should put this Warner Bros. release near or at the top of the summer movies. It's very hard to see how a film that plays so winningly to so many demographics would not be a worldwide hit." … "Sometimes originality comes at a cost though: At the end, you may find yourself utterly exhausted." ~ Kirk Honeycutt at The Hollywood Reporter
"If movies are shared dreams, then Christopher Nolan is surely one of Hollywood's most inventive dreamers, given the evidence of his commandingly clever Inception. Applying a vivid sense of procedural detail to a fiendishly intricate yarn set in the labyrinth of the subconscious, the writer-director has devised a heist thriller for surrealists, a Jungian's Rififi, that challenges viewers to sift through multiple layers of (un)reality. As such, it's a conceptual tour de force unlikely to rank with Batman at the B.O., though post-Dark Knight anticipation and Leonardo DiCaprio should still position it as one of the summer's hottest, classiest tickets." … "If Inception is a metaphysical puzzle, it's also a metaphorical one: It's hard not to draw connections between Cobb's dream-weaving and Nolan's filmmaking – an activity devoted to constructing a simulacrum of reality, intended to seduce us, mess with our heads and leave a lasting impression. Mission accomplished." ~ Justin Chang at Variety
With that said, here are the clips, watch them at will and if you need even more from the film including 92 pictures and trailers, I've got more on the official Inception page here at RopeofSilicon.

WOOOOOOOOOO!!! Can't wait!!!
That poster you have there looks oddly familiar…
Loved "the first lesson" clip the best. Di Caprio is at the top of his game. Reminds me, in an odd way, of Nicholson in his late 30's – from movies like Chinatown in particular.
It's funny you mention Chinatown, one of my favorite movies, because apparently Inception features a very dark, brick-in-the-face type of ending that a film Like Polanksi's materpiece had as well. If I'm incorrect in my readings of early reviews, someone please correct me.
I haven't read exactly that anywhere, only that the closing moments of the film = DiCaprio's best acting ever, and the ending will spark debates. There's a chance it could be tragic and devastating, for sure.
BTW, Chinatown is my second favourite film of all time.
I rekon that, as with any Christopher Nolan film, Michael Caine will be the standout performance.
If anyone has the answer to this, what did Leo mean when he said to Ellen that you are in the workshop. Was she really dreaming?
Yes, she was really dreaming. When he says the "workshop," I think he is referring to the place where he and his team plan their heists. In short, he put her to sleep and is manipulating her dream to teach her a lesson about how real it can seem.
This looks AWESOME.
Leo needs an Oscar already goddammit.
Think of all the excellent performances he's done:
• What's Eating Gilbert Grape
• Romeo + Juliet
• Marvin's Room
• Titanic
• The Man in the Iron Mask
• Catch me if You Can
• Gangs of New York
• The Aviator
• Blood Diamond
• The Departed (my personal favorite)
• Revolutionary Road
• Shutter Island
That's 12 Oscar-worthy performances plus other great performances in Celebrity, Body of Lies and a lot of other movies. He's ready for the Golden Statue. Give it to him!
I agree my friend. I mean, for him to not even pick up a nomination for Best Actor in The Departed and Revolutionary Road…what gives Academy Voters?
2001 Memento
2003 Insomnia
2005 Batman Begins
2006 The Prestige
2008 The Dark Knight
2010 Inception
Here is the $64,000 Question: Can Chris Nolan do no wrong; is he even capable of NOT-Delivering at the cinema?
