yay for benjie button a well deserved best pic from houston film critics.
I'm glad that some people aren't forgetting about "In Bruges". It was solid in every way. And definitely one of the big overlooked movies of the year. I hope at least the screenplay gets nominated, but I'd also like to see Ralph Fiennes nab a supporting actor nod. His work in just a few scenes stood out to me the whole year.
Oh, Come ON!!! The Dark Knight is not the Second Coming and definately doesn't deserve all those awards. As far as Comic Book movies go, Iron Man was 10 times better!! It dissapoints me that people insist on giving TDK all these awards. SERIOUSLY. There are tons of movies that deserve those awards so much more than TDK.
Does Phoenix actually have a category called overlooked?
Do they want to say, "hey we named others the best but don't forget to watch this one"?
In Bruges certainly is great but for me it's the ending that keeps it away from competing for the top spot but the rest of it was absolutely fantastic.
I expect (and received) good perfomance from Gleeson and Fiennes but Farrell really surprised and impressed me.
It's great how Ledger is getting honoured so much and in my opinion actually for is performance and not because he passed away so recently.
Such talent.
I can't wait until the Seattle group announces! What's that? We're not represented?
Oh. Then never mind.
IRON MAN!?!? Oh come on!!! Now you're getting ridiculous.
Iron Man was teriffic, but If Iron Man is better than the Dark Knight, George W. Bush will be President for 4 more years…I promise you that!!
Let's not get crazy now!
Just wait and see what happens on January 22 when the nominations are announced.
And, if it disappoints you, it looks like The Dark Knight will be nominated for Best PIcture, with the buzz going around it.
Stop making this a Marvel vs. DC thing please!
Laremy: That's sad….even Kansas City, last place I lived while in the States, has an official Kansas City Film Critics Circle which hands out awards for films, etc. Most of them wouldn't know a good film from the over-cooked surface of a pudding, but they _do_ have their own awards program!
@Omar: It's not a "Marvel vs. DC thing". It's a good movie vs. not so good movie thing. It might just be a matter of taste. But you have to at least admit that TDK was NOT as good as everyone thought it was!!
The Phoenix Film Critics are obviously nuts. The fact that they would have a category for Best Live Action Family Film seems odd, and the fact that they gave to one of this year's WORST movies is even more disturbing.
