I hear what you meen siliconfan, but in the commercial for the movie there was a huge ball of light in the night sky shooting at things, so looks and sounds more like War of the Worlds to me. However, it took me two times to see the commercial before i caught on to the huge glowing ball of destruction, and the first time i saw it, i totally thought, "Darn! Not another Godzilla movie." I meen dont get me wrong, godzilla is pretty sweet, but enough is enough.

go to the website 1-18-08.com
it's the official website for the movie there will be four pictures there - you can move them around the screen...as many of you know

but did you know you can flip them over by clicking on the picture holding down your mouse button and moving your mouse back and forth very fast?

2 of the have writing on the back

I was raised on Monster movies, and Like everyone I have my favorites.Cloverfield will not be one of them. Having marginally completed elementary school 45 years ago I prefer just a little plausibility in a movie Plot.Even Godzilla followed the rules.Yes, there are lifeforms that produce high temperatures (Godzilla breath)and attain large size(some organisms never stop growing and have only a maximum recorded size). So I'm OK with Giant creatures that may spit fire. However, the Drilling Platform trailer confirms my expectations for this movie. It was made for the most ignorant society on this planet ,US. First, a 4th grade science education would destroy most of the plausibility of this movie. There is no Oil and hence no oil rigs anywhere near the mid-oceanic ridge rise system of any ocean.(this is where the molten core of earth bubbles up thru large cracks in the ocean floor creating the hard tectonic plates which we call continents and the ocean floor). Second, this ridge system which trends north /south in the atlantic is in the middle of the ocean (hence the term Mid-Oceanic) and is as much off the coast of (Conneticutt ?) as it is off the coast of Brasil, and far from the coast,Generally. I suspect the Creature is an unknown Deep ocean lifeform with a host of Marine Parasites disturbed by our activities and looking for a new foodsource. I'm more interested in these Parasites than the host monster. Oh yeah, nothing that exists in the deep ocean could survive anywhere near the surface ,anymore than we could survive the vacuum of outer space in our birthday suites. But hay,now I'm just being nitpicky, as well as long winded. My 10 year old son will probably like it,maybe.

Just saw it. Liked it, but not much more than that. It was a monster movie. I got a basic monster movie. And the monster action was good. I thought the concept was a good one but I think the script dropped the ball. Since Abrams and company were trying to reinvent the narrative POV of the monster movie, they might as well have tried to tell a more original story too. But yay, we can now put the great hype machine of Cloverfield behind us and watch it make an assload of money.

I saw this one last week. It was one of the most realistic experiences I had in the cinema. The handheld camera made me feel I was right in the middle of the action in this movie. The unknown cast added in to that point acting just like ordinary people would do and not (over-)acting like Hollywood stars would do. The overall special effects were amazing. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes action movies in general and who doesn't get bothered too much by shaky handcams.

With all of the crazy viral marketing (that started way too early) some people were worried if it could live up to the hype. It COMPLETELY surpassed my expectations, and I went in expecting it to be good in the first place. Once things pick up and start rolling about 15 minutes in, I didn't relax until the credits started rolling. Yes, they give you a few brief moments to catch your breath, but even then you're still on edge, waiting for the next attack. I can't imagine this movie being executed in any way other than the hand held approach. They somehow managed to pull off SEVERAL absolutely beautiful shots/camera angles while still fitting into the hand held setting.
