View Full Version : The Island
Being forced a life upon the characters in such a way brought memories of Logan's Run streaming back, so we got off to a good start. Plush sets, decent acting (Neelix! We get to see Neelix without his face mask on!-Great), Ewan really needs to sort out his accent though, it was better than Nick Cage in 'Mandolin, thats not saying much. Nice Photography, good editing (I'm no expert, but when its below par it really screws a film up), excellent timing during all the action scenes - it made me feel like I was in a racing video game! Overall it was money very well spent and I would be glad to go see again. I wonder if a spin off could be created where the clones are integrated into society? hmmm, Oi, Bay...do it. Rich

The Island could have been the major blockbuster for this summer, in the end it turned to be a complete flop in terms of box office revenue. The producers blame the acting, Johanson blames the marketing, who's fault is it? The Island is all about an apocalyptic society where human survivors work to get a chance to go to an Island so they can rebuild the world after it's been devastated by a deadly virus. Lincon Six-Echo starts to suspect that something doesn't feel right and what he discovers is far mor shocking then they would suspect. I'm not telling much more, but if you saw the trailer, you know already know what I mean. It's not a bad action film, it features a great storyline, notable performances and overall a pretty neat action film with some (not) well explored themes, but where did it miss? It mostly has to do outside the movie, the teasers and the TV spots and such. If you watch the teaser trailer or any other trailer, you pretty much know the entire plot on the spot, it's not very entertaining to go see a movie where you are always 10 steps ahead of the main characters. Another aspect which might have truned the majority of movie-goers off, it's the hipocritical side of the film, it's supossed to be a moral tale about corporation missue of technology and the ethical aspects of cloning, that OK but not only does it not get trully into the bottom of the issue, but the movie often feels like a 2-hour advertising campaign with major corporations pitching in(I'm sure the movie wasn't a total flop, because most of it probably was paid for thanks to the advertising). So where left with a moral tale but told in some hipocritical manner. Still I don't get it on how this movie is a flop.
