I never saw the original movies, but the animated character that appeared in the opening credits was very familiar to me. I went in with low expectations(I've heard some of the backlash) and came out thinking it was a great comedy/crime story. It's about Inspector Closeau, a french dim-witted officer who gets promoted and given the assignment to track down the killer of soccer coach and the dissaperence of his priceless Pink Panther diamond. Let's just say this movie is very basic detective story but sprinkled with lots and lots of gags and jokes that made the original movies, from what I heard(I didn't see much of the old versions, that is). I also never saw Cheaper by the Dozen, one of the director's early works, but anyway, here's the rundown of all the good things about the movie: -Acting: Steve Martin is hillarious as Closeau and he seems to be enjoying himself during the whole deal, Jean Reno as Closeau's assistant is also note-worthy as the more serious but provider of good laughs, Kevin Kline is OK for his police chief role and while I didn't find anything wrong with Beyoncé's acting, I can almost smell a Razzie's nomination. Also that Clive Owen cameo was simply brilliant; -Soundtrack: I loved how the Pink Panther theme gets played out during the whole movie; -The gags: Not much toilet humor save, but everything else was a-ok. -Story: Short, simple and like all detective stories, it all makes sense in the end; The bad part: While most of the early gags in the film are laugh riots, some of the final jokes were a bit weak. I would recommend this movie for Pink Panther fans and people who just want to have a good laugh. For me it was worth it...
