The big movie of the year has arrived as Disney unleashes it's major motion picture that delivers. Chronicles of Narnia: LWW is the story of 4 brothers(Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy), during the World War 2, venture through a wardrobe that leas them to a magical world known as Narnia. Let me be the first to congratulate Disney on this motion picture as the 1st chapter of the Chronicles begins. It's magic, it's excting and it's memorable. Let's start with the acting, while the main characters needed a bit of fleshing out, they don't fail nor they feel forced, their lack of experience doesn't show at all in this film and the adult performances don't dissapoint, the Ice witch a true villain and Liam Neeson shines as Aslan. The storyline is pretty straighfoward, it's pretty much a battle of Good vs Evil mixed with themes such as sibbling issues, friendship and loyalty, plus some religious elements. It's just about long enough and it never drags. The special effects are excellent, the combined efforts of various fx studios(ILM, ImageWorks, WETA) made the worlds absolutly stunning and worth every penny(a production budget of 180 million). The movie is accompanied by a very emotional soundtrack from a lackluster composer, Harry Gregson-Williams(Shrek 2 and Kingdom of Heaven), his other works have failed to impress, but this one is just about right, it's memorable and has a decente chorus, but not on the same level as Revenge of the Sith. In the end, Chronicles ends up being the major fantasy film of 2005 and living up to it's hype. Let me also go on record and say that this movie and series of books have no relation whatsoever with Lord of the Rings, it has nothing to do with LOTR, this one combines christian elements with classic greek-roman mythology unlike Tolkien's books which resembles viking mythology. This might not get movie of the year awards, but it's definatly one of the A-list titles of this year. To some extent better then this year's Harry Potter movie, which is growing tiresome even to fans, represents a good alternative to the Potter series and it will definatly not be a letdown to kids and adults alike. Congratulations to Disney for pulling off an excellent adaptation of the 1st of a series of 7 books, I will be waiting for the next one.
