This movie isn't at all that scary, but it IS cool. Very cool. (anti) Intellectual cool. Cabin Fever, like Romero's Living Dead series, attempts to use the horror genre as a medium for social commentary. Maybe most folks overlooked the PRIMAL message of the flick: ""Civilization is only skin deep."" If you did, go back and give CABIN FEVER another look-see. I wont go into details at this time of writing, because I'm reviewing from memory. It's been a couple of years since I first viewed this classic. What I do remember is that CABIN FEVER Hammered home the afore mentioned message repeatedly. Even the title suggests the message. If the movie had been a little more scary, and a little less tongue and cheek, then Roth would have achieved a TRUE horror masterpiece in the Romero sense. Still, Cabin Fever is close to Romero's acclomplishment. Close, but no cigar.
