The idea of some long lost civilization far more advanced than the rest and being responsible for the pyramids and so on is quite old and the inspiration for quite a few films and tv-shows. Just look at stargate.

I do agree that this is not a great film, it's not even good. But it is entertaining.
One of those I've-got-a-hangover-sunday-afternoon-no-brainers.
And some of the basics of the film are quite original.

Funny you mention Stargate. While I was watching this, I was thinking "Its amazing how Stargate made the pyramids being built by aliens seem more realistic." Also interesting because Roland Emmerich also directed that...

Speaking of Stargate, Don S. Davis, from SG-1(And Con Air, A League of their Own and a ton of other movies) died this Sunday... practically no press on it at all, very sad.
