See, this is why we gotta draw the line. No more full frontal nudity for either gender.

I'll be honest, pulling the full frontal in Walk Hard worked very well. The audience all laughed like crazy and i think it worked for a couple of reasons: 1) we weren't expecting it. 2) It operates mostly as a background item. 3) They aren't shy about it...it stays up for an uncomfortably long time.
It did not work at all in Sarah Marshall because one, it was played off as THE joke of the scene, yet the quick cuts of it don't really help the joke land. The editing completely killed any comedic timing. On top of that, the over-all joke that he's naked while she's breaking up with him wasn't enhanced with actually seeing it. In fact, I think the whole scene would have played out splendedly if the only real glimpse we got of it is when he bends over away from her. that was probably the funniest moment out of the entire thing. It was very obvious they did the full frontal just to get a rise out of people...which we are proving worked!
