Focus Focuses in On Burton's '9'
Animated feature attracts specialty studio.
Universal Pictures specialty offspring Focus Features is making their way into the animation business as they are set to back the Tim Burton produced feature 9 from director Shane Acker.
The film is said to be based on Acker's Student Academy Awards Gold Medal winning short of the same name in which IMDB describes as a film about a rag doll who fights a monster that has been stealing the souls of his people. Variety describes the feature project as a surreal fantasy that takes place in a parallel world where humanity is threatened… sounds about right.
Acker describes the CGI feature as having a "stylized quality" that makes the footage look like stop-motion animation.
Corpse Bride scribe, Pamela Pettler, has been brought aboard to pen the script.
