Five New Pictures from 'Star Trek Into Darkness'

Plus a couple of looks at two EW covers

Entertainment Weekly's newest issue will feature the two covers you see above as well as a preview of J.J. Abrams's Star Trek Into Darkness, and as a result they've brought online five new images of the film in advance.

The new pics feature looks at Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as Captain Kirk and Spock, Benedict Cumberbatch as the film's villain, John Harrison, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Abrams on set with co-writer Alex Kurtzman.

The film will hit theaters on May 15. Here's another look at the synopsis, followed by the new pics:

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man (Benedict Cumberbatch) weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew

Are we seeing the trend of super-villains getting deliberately caught at early in the movie and then, wreaking havoc, breaking the faith and ultimately taking U-turn proving some lost point?
Loki in The Avengers. Silva in Skyfall. Apparently, Harrison following the path.
Hoping the writing trio of gentlemen- Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof has evolved the trend at the least.
    Highly anticipated, though.
    Monsieur Abrams, we trust.

With all due respect, it's too obvious not to be mentioned.
Its my mistake though, should have included.

For the record, Joker started the trend.
