20th Century Fox just released the first trailer for Jim Carrey's upcoming film Mr. Popper's Penguins based on the 1938 children's book centering on a high-powered, New York business man (Carrey) who suddenly inherits six penguins. Taking care of the animals is no easy matter, and he quickly hits major hurtles, both at home and at work. But along the way, he learns the value of family and friendship--human and otherwise.

Mark Water (Mean Girls) directed the film which co-stars Carla Gugino, Ophelia Lovibond, Philip Baker Hall and Angela Lansbury.

Mr. Popper's Penguins is currently set for a June 17 release date. Check out the trailer below.

I'm wondering the justification they could possibly pull out of their ass for having an unwanted batch of penguins living in your high rise apartment? That was ridiculous looking.

I remember having this book read to my class in the fourth grade. Don't remember much of the plot outside of the setup, though, and this seems to be quite the liberal adaptation. Not necessarily a bad thing, and Jim Carrey appears to be having fun without going over-the-top.

Gotta say, though, that this one wins by award for best use of Vanilla Ice music in a trailer.

I do sometimes wish that Jim Carrey would do more dramas than these repetitive comedies that this one appears to be. This one looks more like Liar Liar vs Alvin and the Chipmunks. No thanks.

I read the book when I was a kid, so I was interested in checking this out. Saw the penguins in the trailer and thought COOL! because, let's face it, they're irresistible little tykes - then saw CGI penguins dancing and thought CRAP!

If I want dancing cartoon penguins I'll watch HAPPY FEET.

Looks stupid. Anyone know if those penguins are real or are they CGI?

  • Vince (Not Vance)

I totally laughed throughout this trailer unfortunately (or fortunately). I like Jim Carrey a ton & he totally elevated the material here. That laugh he gives after the "Your house is full of penguins" was a perfect reaction; in the hands of a lesser comedian (a Jack Black or Ben Stiller), that gag would have completely fallen flat.
