First Trailer and Pictures from Ridley Scott's 'Robin Hood'
Russell Crowe seems to be right on target
A bootleg version of this Robin Hood trailer showed up late last night but the swiftness with which Universal took it down from YouTube led me to believe the official version would be online soon and sure enough here it is via Apple along with the first three photos from the film.
Robin Hood is directed by Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe stars as the title character as the film chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Cate Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.
William Hurt, Mark Strong, Mark Addy, Oscar Isaac and Max von Sydow also star. The film hits theaters on May 14, 2010.
I have added the trailer directly below and the photos can be viewed right here.
You can also watch the trailer in high definition at Apple.

Wow. I really liked what I saw.
Looks a litle creepier than I expected
I don't know. Seems too been there done that. I liked the original idea, being from the POV of the sheriff. I wonder if it will get an R rating. The trailer looks really violent. And an R Robin Hood story would be different enough for me.
Ridley Scott …. thats all i had to hear !!!!
@The Check Spot:
Several reports from a few months ago said that Ridley Scott was aiming for a PG-13….
Doent look anything like Robin Hood, and that's what I like about it. This movie will be really good IMO.
Why so many dam remakes, this is getting all too boring these days. Regardless of a directors version or take, why can't any one think of any new stories to be made???
I don't care what anyone else says, this movie looks awesome. I trust Scott and Crowe enough to believe they won't let me down.
it kinda reminded me of scott's early style like blade runner or legend
Gladiator part 2. Boring.
Seriously, it's Maximus in tights. There is NOTHING that entices me to this film. It looks like it lacks charm and is simply going to be another over-earnest oscar whore like Gladiator with violins playing over every scene and that stupid 'blurry' editing over the battle scenes.
Looks really good. It definetley looks more violent then i expected. I think it could be R. Ridley Scott rarley makes PG-13 movies. It would be good either way. I hope its R though.
Badass. Gladiator continued! And Ridley Scott is back!
I'd say it looks good but it looks like a sequel to Gladiator. Hopefully this will be new and original and I'm excited to see it but I'm a little skeptical that there's nothing new at play here.
I am a Ridley fanatic but I actually had reservations about this movie. If I remember right, Brian Helgeland wrote the script and he is fairly hit or miss with me. But the trailer removed all doubt. I am so pumped up about this, I almost forgot about that James Cameron movie coming out on Friday.
Also, I would expect an R rating. Can anyone remember the last non-R rated Ridley movie? It was A Good Year and I would rather this movie lean toward Body of Lies or American Gangster than A Good Year. Although I will admit I liked A Good Year, it had a better touch than any other "chick flick" I can think of.
this looks badass, im already loving the score, i dont see how anyone can complain when something along the lines of gladiator is being done, with the same cast and director.
this is gonna be awesome can't wait
Quite a solid trailer, I can tell from the other comments that most people were as impressed and shocked as I. The rating though…a lot hinges on that.
May movies rarely get R-ratings…the last real big May release that did that was Sex and the City, and that's not exactly relevant. But Universal has a solid track record for R-Rated summer movies.
2009 has Bruno, Public Enemies, and Bruno. All of which were solidly in the R category.
But Universal took a beating on those movies, as they have in general lately, so I'm thinking PG-13, which would be terrible, but oh well.
@Ted: Ha I meant to put 'Funny People' in that list of R-rated Universal movies, but in retrospect Bruno deserves to be mentions twice cause it was really really R-rated. In fact wasn't it originally NC-17, probably a publicity stunt, but still…
i saw an article in thesun.co.uk where it says that this makes the gladiator seem like low budget….
after seeing this trailer……..really????? :S
I guess I liked it. It wasn't quite the rousing trailer that I expected; however, it is such a pleasure to see Russell Crowe back in the saddle as a leader of men, not to mention a return to the team that brought us Gladiator (Scott & Crowe).
I'm really looking forward to this film….and a better trailer than the teaser.
This is not a remake, it's a retelling. Hopefully a good one and not Maxius part duece + a bow and arrow.
Just want to note that if Marion is a WIDOW, she is definitely NOT Maid. Might want to figure that part out. . .
