Forgiving (and forgetting) his latter day sins, no one has EVER matched his the Godfather to the Conversation to the Godfather Part II to Apocalypse Now run he had in the 70's, and I don't think anyone ever will. I desperately need this film to be great. Hope when I see it I agree with you. For my money, Coppola's the greatest director of all time.
