First 'Resident Evil: Afterlife' Trailer and Pictures
The Undead sure are hard to kill

The teaser trailer and five new images for Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the Resident Evil franchise just arrived for your viewing pleasure. Be sure to notice how, on the heels of Clash of the Titans, the trailer is sure to note it was "filmed" in 3D using James Cameron and Vincent Pace's Fusion Camera System. It may as well have just said, "And it's not that post-production 2D-to-3D crap." However, they should have also added how the last shot in the trailer was ripped straight out of Matrix: Reloaded. Oh well, things said, things left unsaid and things implied… that's movie marketing.
Following 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction, Afterlife is set in the same world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice as she continues her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead – and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

i hate 3D
I wouldn't say I hate 3D, I simply hate that now everything has to be in it to capitalize on Avatar's success. I guess it's "better" that Resident Evil was shot in 3D rather than converted, but I doubt Paul WS Anderson is going to utilize it the same way Cameron did. Please note that this will be the first and last time I ever place those two directors in the same sentence.
When used to add depth and immersion I think it can be a powerful tool, but to throw it on everything to add 5 bucks to the ticket price is typical money grabbing from Hollywood.
On the topic of the film, I actually thought the 1st wasn't half bad, the 2nd was pretty awful and I haven't watched the 3rd so I'm not exactly hyped.
Yeah, that sounds like a blatant bash of not just Clash of the Titans, but of all the other announcements of 3D-converted films that will be hitting theatres over the next year-plus. Nevertheless, it seemed to me that at least half the shots in the trailer were "comin atcha" shots showing off the gimmick. But really, 3D will probably be the least of this film's problems and it actually might be enjoyable in that format like just like I thought My Bloody Valentine and The Final Destination were. Not that I plan on seeing it anyway, but still.
why the hell are resident evil 5 characters in this movie?
@ Trevor
I too didn't mind the first one and hated the second, but I must admit the third one isn't too shabby, you should give it a chance
@Everyone
Just wanted to point out the blood in the scene where Alice is slicing up those swat looking guys. I didn't know they could show that in a green band trailer.
This series of films is one of my guilty pleasures. I can't explain why, but I really enjoy them, even in all their ridiculousness. Though, I think I'm the only person in the world who's favorite of the trilogy is the second one, Apocalypse. I think it's because I loved Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine. They've never brought her back, which annoys me.
As for this one, I'm mildly excited. I'm a big critic of 3D, but I'll give it a chance. I am pissed that they replaced Jason O'Mara as Wesker though. Action looks cool nonetheless.
why isnt any RE movie centered around leon kennedy or chris redfeild or jill valentine, i mean cmon how many alice movies do we have to stomach, and btw i totally agree with goavs, 3d is lame, i hate it with a passion.
I think the movie ok, and the 3D could be fantastic, if used in the right way. Avatar used the 3D in perfection, Alice used the 3D in a good way and CotT used the 3D in a awfull way.
3 examples, and I think the mistakes commited in CotT will not be repeated again.
Opening on a 9/11 weekend huh? I don't know if it will underperform or overperform, all I know is that it won't be opening the same as other RE titles. It's a little more appealing, but I imagine it to be like Daybreakers.
@John-PT: Yes, if CotT will drop significantly in the following weeks, then we could ensure that movie makers will consider trying to go for a money grab, however, a lot of movies are already being converted and I guess we'll still see some money grabbing movies until next year.
Yes but will be conversions like Alice in Wonderland, will take time and will be good conversions. CotT was a true money grabber, 3D was awfull, Warner Bros just wanted the money.
I think the look of the 3D in the three films you mentioned has to do with how they were shot. Avatar obviously was shot for 3D with state of the art cameras, so naturally its 3D looked the best (though I still thought it was gimmicky and completely unnecessary). Alice in Wonderland was shot digitally and most of the backgrounds were created via CGI, which is essentially 3D by nature (hence the reason every animated film is released in 3D now). Because the 3D effect is added when the film is in its digital intermediate stage (for editing), and Alice had a digital source format to begin with, the conversion was less jarring. Clash of the Titans was shot (anamorphically) on 35mm film, which was then converted to DI for editing and 3D conversion. Because film was the source format, it did not lend itself to decent-looking 3D. I don't know if the anamorphic aspect added to the crappiness of the 3D or not (personally I think anamorphic 35mm is the best looking thing out there short of 65/70mm, so props to Louis Leterrier and the DP for shooting it that way). And I imagine most of the upcoming films set to be converted were/will be shot on film, since that is still the more dominant medium (though digital is catching up fast). All of the Harry Potter films have been shot on film so I doubt Deathly Hallows was shot digitally. That's at least the way I understand the issue. The fact that it was rushed also likely played a factor; perhaps with more time they could have produced a better-looking 3D product.
Easily the new best movie of all time. It has 3-D and rising box office numbers for every movie, why wouldn't it keep going up?
They got that thing from Resident Evil 5 in there, Alice looks better than ever, the action is top notch…haters of this series need to go away.
yea really disagree with seiko…these movies suck ass
you guys the RE are the best video game adaptations right now, and theyre good at what they are..zombie killing thrillers..even though im kinda tirred of this 3D being advertised in every single film and directors feeling the need to either shoot or convert their films to 3d because its the 'hot new thing'..BUT i do think it will look amazing in 3D and the film looks like it will have some awesome stunts and action sequences so why all the pannning??
To say that the RE adaptations are the best video game adaptations out there isn't saying much, in my opinion. The action in the films is pretty good, but everything else is arguably…meh.
I felt betrayed when the first movie had NOTHING to do with the original characters. Ever since then, I've taken issue with the film series.
yeah i know but atleast its a series of movies that give us some nice action and thats it..
Yeah, true. But I'd take a solid adaptation over decent action any day. I think the RE film series needs a reboot. No more Alice and crap, just go back to basics. Hell, RE4 would make a great movie. (But I also argue that games exist perfectly in the form they are in–no adaptations!)
Wow you're not kidding about that Matrix: Reloaded shot. But then again, that movie is 7 years old, maybe this is an homage haha.
I like the RE movies but I hope this is the last one!
You know what? This film is gonna be a big steaming pile of…well you get the idea. Still, the trailer looked absolutely stunning in 3D. Such a shame to waste this brilliant technology on such a stinker as RE4, and it's too bad Clash Of The Titans (the film this trailer was attached to) didn't bother to actually shoot their film using James Cameron's cameras.
This looks really good. I hope it will be an improvement over the last one. That was a bit dissapointment.
