First Poster for M Night Shyamalan's 'After Earth'

It would seem Jaden Smith is the star of M Night Shyamalan's After Earth and not his box-office gold father Will Smith as many got the impression Jaden was the lead from that first trailer and now the poster even gives him first place in the film's above-title billing.

The poster below does hold a strong resemblance to the first poster for Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion starring Tom Cruise, but then again, both films do take place on a long-in-the-future Earth... Perhaps Cruise and the Smith boys have a run-in at the end and get jiggy with it.

Either way, here's the poster and if you haven't yet watched the trailer click here. After Earth hits theaters on June 7.

After Earth poster

In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind's new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

Just like the trailer, Shyamalan's name is nowhere to be found. Ouch.

      I know, right?

Even the 'Oblivion' poster says 'from the Director of Tron: Legacy' on it even though Kosinski's actual name is absent.

This gets nothing at all. Is his name really an issue now to the degree it doesn't get? mentioned?

Luckily, Shyamalan isn't the only person writing the screenplay so maybe there is a glimmer of hope here?

Night is still one of my favorite filmmakers, and I look forward to After Earth. Really hope this movie revives the faith people seem to have lost in him.

Nicely written, JayRam. :) Night is also one of my favorites. I never miss one of his movies. Looking forward to After Earth.
