I missed this information at the end of last week, but Roadside Attractions has acquired distribution rights to Gimme Shelter, a new film featuring a bit of a change in terms of character for actress Vanessa Hudgens as she'll play a pregnant teen runaway in the pic, which the studio is set to release on January 24, 2014.

Starring alongside Hudgens is Brendan Fraser, Rosario Dawson, James Earl Jones and Ann Dowd in a film inspired by a David and Goliath true story of Kathy DiFiore's (played by Dowd) Several Sources Shelters telling the story of 16-year-old Agnes "Apple" Bailey (Hudgens) and her journey from the streets to finding salvation in a suburban shelter for homeless teens.

With provisions of unprecedented comfort, a collective sisterhood connection and female empowerment, the shelter inspires Apple to break the shackles of her past and inspires her to embrace the future with clarity, maturity and hope not only for herself but her unborn child.

The film was written, produced and directed by Ronald Krauss (Amexica), who financed the film through his Day 28 Films banner along with producer Jeff Rice and co-producer Joshua Amir.

In advance of its January release it will have its world premiere at the Heartland Film Festival will it will serve as the opening night film on October 17.

Of all the former Disney stars, i've always felt Vanessa Hudgens and Alyson Michalka (Zac Efron as well) could potentially turn into pretty good actors and so far, they've shown signs of it. As for the movie, I want to see a trailer of before I give my thoughts on it.

I have yet to see the entirety of Frozen Ground...but what movie has Vanessa Hudgens impressed you in? I found all of the lead characters to be annoying and in the least bit realistic in Spring Breakers. The only redeeming quality of that movie was James Franco.

I liked her in a small film called "Bandslam".

Cool. I'll check it out. See if it's up my alley.

            Pretty good movie.

I always thought Ashley Tisdale was the only one with any real potential as an actress. I've heard she was good on Sons of Anarchy.

Also, I'll give credit to Zac Efron for picking some very interesting projects.

        I like her too.

  • Hudsucker

I wonder if it'll play Gimme Shelter.

Is it just me or does she look just like Arya Stark with a lip-ring in this photo?

Roadside Attractions tend to deliver mediocre films, and considering the release date, I'm a bit suspect. But I won't write it off completely, seems like it has quite a bit of potential.
