Originally titled Rapunzel, Disney Animation's Tangled marks the studio's 50th full-length animated feature. Directed by Byron Howard (Bolt) and Nathan Greno, the film centers on bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) who hides out in a mysterious tower only to be taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair.

Flynn's curious captor, who's looking for her ticket out of the tower where she's been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs.

Along with Levi and Moore, the film features the voices of Donna Murphy, Ron Perlman, M.C. Gainey, Jeffrey Tambor, Brad Garrett and Paul F. Tompkins and is set for a November 12 limited release (expanding nationwide on Nov. 24) and just above you get a look at the very first production still from the feature. Maybe I'm just going crazy, but hasn't this image been out for a pretty long time? Regardless, it's a wonderful image. Thanks!

I call $30-40M opening! Honestly, I wished they didn't change the title of the movie. Everyone seems to know Rapunzel, now people would just be confused with it.

I could give it Princess and the Frog Dollars, plus 3D cash and an advantage since it's better known than PatF. So, maybe I'm wrong.

Yup, that pic is an oldie, but a goody. Still upset that they changed the title. I don't think it makes sense to anyone but the Disney marketing team.

Why the 2 week limited release (NY/LA?) before opening wide? Did this help The Princess and the Frog?

    I HATE limited releases.

I think "Rapunzel" made a lot more sense. After all, it is a well known fairy tale. Although this movie is probably very different from the tale. Anyways, looking forward to seeing it!

I guess the logic is that "Rapunzel" is obviously the story of the princess, and Disney has had a hard time getting boys to go see princess movies. However, "Tangled" can be marketed as the story of this Flynn thief character on shows that boys watch, and it won't instantly read as a girl's film to them.

It was named "tangled" so the boys would see it? There so stupid! Tangled may not sound like a princess movie…but now it sounds like a romantic comedy.Boys are more likely to go watch a Disney movie.

  8. Tangled reminds me too much of Shrek in the regards to the comedic tone in the trailer at least. That is disney’s advertising for you. A lot of reviewers have blasted the trailers for their Shrek like tone but have actually said the film is more like A Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beats. Iconic Disney.
