First Look at the Primitive Family that Makes Up 'The Croods'

Our first look at the Crodaceous period

First Look at The CroodsSo, if Dreamworks Animation's Turbo is the Gastropoda version of Pixar's Cars, then am I wrong to look at this sales art for The Croods and immediately think of it as a Stone Age version of How to Train Your Dragon?

The voice cast is made up of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman and -- surprise, surprise -- is helmed by How to Train Your Dragon co-director Chris Sanders and Space Chimps helmer Kirk De Micco.

The story takes place in what fictional Crodaceous period, when nature was still a work-in-progress... full of never-before-seen creatures and landscapes and follows the Crood family as an imaginative and resourceful newcomer helps them navigate their way through the fantastic world beyond their cave.

De Micco and Sanders co-wrote the script and the film is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2013. Check out the first look art directly below.

Spielberg had a meeting with the creators of the hilarious UK claymation caveman show GOGS years ago, so I'm guessing this is a trickle-down effect from that.
