Will this be a step up or down from 'Doomsday'?

The above image comes from Empire and is the debut pic from Neil Marshall's Centurion starring Olga Kurylenko, Michael Fassbender (Hunger) and Dominic West (Punisher: War Zone).

The film tells the story of Quintus Dias (Fassbender), sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, who marches north with General Virilus' legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the Earth and destroy their leader, Gorlacon.

Kurylenko plays Etain, a savage-looking Pict warrior woman. "Etain is kind of revenge incarnate," Marshall told Empire. "Her family were butchered by the Romans, she had her tongue cut out by the Romans, she’s had a hell of a time and she’s out for Roman blood."

You probably don't recognize her from the picture, but Kurylenko was the most recent Bond girl in Quantum of Solace and also starring in Hitman and Max Payne.

Centurion is Marshall's follow-up to the dreadful Doomsday. He is best known for directing Dog Soldiers and the great 2006 horror feature The Descent.

Centurion does not have a distributor or a release date. Get more from the set in Empire's report right here.

Well at least Kurylenko can't speak in this one, having her tongue cut out and all. Good way to improve the movie.

@Tim: Too bad they didn't do the same with Kiera Knightly in King Arthur.

I liked Doomsday and King Arthur, this looks good to me. Not every movie has to have a little gold statue performance to be about pure escapism, which to me is what movies are all about. King Arthur was the first yarn to spin Arthur was Roman, it some how had a sense of truth behind it. Doomsday was fun, couldn't get over how much Rhona Mitra looks like Kate Beckinsale. No wonder they cast her in Underworld 3 to replace Kate.

Egads! She is reminiscent of Kiera Knightley in King Author. I do hope this movie is on a caliber with HBO's Rome or Gladiator even. I can't take more ancient Roman crap like The Last Legion.
