Warner Bros. has premiered the first Edge of Tomorrow trailer, the new sci-fi film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt with Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) at the helm.

Set for release on June 6, 2014, the film is something of a future-set Groundhog Day in which Cruise stars as Lt. Col. Bill Cage, an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and dropped directly into the mix where he's killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. The twist in the narrative is that he awakens back at the beginning of the same day, forced to fight again and subsequently die again, and again, and again... as he's thrown into some sort of a time loop.

I personally love Cruise and will show up to watch most anything he's in, but without having watched this trailer I can't say I'm immediately in the bag for this idea and Liman doesn't necessarily inspire much confidence. What do you think?

Looks interesting. More excited about the new Jack Ryan sequel though.

      Jack bad.

Looks pretty exciting but i'd still take Magnolia Tom Cruise over Sci-Fi Tom Cruise, i look forward to roles that puts better use to his talents.

    Looks pretty sick!

This trailer is everything I wanted. High concept action with characters at the centre of the drama. This won't be some kid-friendly nonsense crap, this will be the real deal. CAN. NOT. WAIT.

It's just a trailer... Keep in mind that they're cutting it to convey a tone... Not necessarily the tone of the final product.

I hope you're right, for what it's worth.

Looks interesting and fairly original. I also love Cruise and will turn up for almost anything he puts out, and Emily Blunt is pretty great as well. The music reminds me of "Battle: Los Angeles", which is one of my least favorite films of all time, so I hope the comparisons between the two stop there.

    • Winchester

Yeah, let's keep 'Battle: Los Angeles' in the forgotten pile where it belongs. :)

I'm definitely intrigued, but it's not exactly a good sign when the trailer can't even get the basic premise across. A lot of people will watch this trailer and have no idea what's going on.

When did London become the new 'go to' location? Not that I'm complaining.

Anyway, that's another 2014 tentpole to add to the watchlist.

I think London has a filming tax credit which is why Thor filmed there as well.

All you need is kill, kill...kill is all you need.

I like the premise but this just doesn't look very good.

Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt sure likes Sci-Fi, don't they? I'm in, love both actors and this looks awesome.

  • navaneethks

Eh. Looks ok. Decent trailer, but not very appealing. It just had a bunch of machines and explosions.

  • Dtello

Gave away too much plot by the half way point of the trailer. Won't watch any more of that or any more trailers for this.

  • austinjoel

    Tom Cruise. Sci-Fi. I'm in.

  • JN Films

Yeah the CGI looks far from finished, and there doesn't seem like anything new to this. I think a Battle: LA comparison wouldn't be too far off.

  • topyxyz

Looks good and not generic at all. Although I had my issues with Blunt on Looper, still curious how these two actors will work.

  • Alan Smithee

I'm trying to remember the last time Doug Liman directed something worth watching (2002?); he's one whose career thus far really hasn't lived up to the promise and potential of his early work, IMO...

  • yrabadi

I'm always up for more Emily Blunt. Bring it on.

  • vikas

Whats the background song playing in the trailer ??

  • Alexander Meatlog

The band is called fieldwork. Vegas baby! Go Liman!

Tom Cruise should stop doing Sci-Fi now,
