Finally an Official Poster for 'Argo'

COMMENTS

I saw a different one in Toronto though

I actually saw a different poster for Argo in Toronto, one that featured the paper shredding motif from the teaser poster only it was shredding the lower half of Ben Affleck's face. That isn't the look we get, however, from the first domestic poster for Affleck's latest directorial outing, which already has some talking Best Picture winner, which will be hitting theaters on October 12.

Argo centers on the covert operation to rescue six Americans in the midst of the Iran hostage crisis in 1979 and it features a massive ensemble of names including Affleck, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Scoot McNairy, Tate Donovan, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, Richard Kind, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Victor Garber, Zeljko Ivanek, Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Bob Gunton and Philip Baker Hall.

It was one of the better films I saw in Toronto and as I wrote in my review, "With Argo, Affleck has delivered yet again and will certainly find ardent supporters to push the Oscar agenda, but forget the awards for a second and let this one wash over you and just wait and see how hard you're gripping the armrests on your chair as the final seconds tick away."

Check out the poster below and you can read my full review right here.

  1. Wow, that's actually a pretty good poster. For some reason, I'm surprised. I liked the posters for The Town and Gone Baby Gone, I don't know why I expected bad things for this poster...

There's something about this poster that doesn't quite invoke the Iranian element though. That's what's missing in this poster. Aside from that, it captures (to some degree) the premise and dire situation w/in the film.

As I Tweeted earlier, Bloomberg put together a nice clip on the booming business of early movie posters.
