OBERT RODRIGUEZ is the man behind the Spy Kids trilogy and the El Mariachi trilogy starring Antonio Banderas as the guitar toting gunslinger so with his upcoming feature Sin City based on three Frank Miller graphic novels does this mean that Sin City has already reached its trilogy stage or is there more Sin City in the future, and what can we expect from the DVD?

Getting it out of the way quickly Rodriguez told me himself that he is fully prepared for a sequel to Sin City and when asked if he could get the cast back he quickly replied, "Oh hell yes."

This was also confirmed by Clive Owen when I asked him if he would be willing to return to the city of sin, "Of course I would," he said, but is he signed on for more? "No, there are a few whisperings coming from Rodriguez over there. If he asked me I would go with him. Because like I told you; I was blown away by the movie."

Blown away indeed, and as for Frank Miller returning to Sin City in comic book form Rodriguez assures us he isn't done, "He has tons of stuff in mind, that was the great thing about having him there on the set is that he could tell us what the future adventures of Nancy were gonna be, that she studied in criminology, that she is gonna be a detective, and that was really great for the actors to know. Because they don't just go off of the books, they see where these experiences for the characters are going to lead them and they can build a really well rounded character.

"He's eager to do some more stuff, that was the main reason I didn't want to script the movie, because if you do a bad movie, then you kill the comic and he wouldn't be able to return to 'Sin City' either. That was why I was always making sure before I started, because I didn't want to do that to him."

So with anticipated sequels possibly on the horizon let's talk more about this current incarnation and what we can expect beyond the April 1st theatrical release? Of course I am talking about the DVD, which we seem to want even before movies hit the theaters now days, and for good reason, Rodriguez is already talking about some revolutionary things for the Sin City release.

Taking three stories and packing them into one movie wasn't exactly the easiest of tasks and Rodriguez even admits that some stuff had to go, but wait... that doesn't mean it wasn't caught on camera.

"We shot the full stories of the books, and I knew we could truncate it down, knowing that we weren't going to lose any scenes; eventually they would all be available for people to see," Rodriguez said. "So the DVD will come out with the theatrical cut, and then there'll be a separate disc that's got the individual episodes separated with their own title card, and you can just watch 'The Big Fat Kill' from beginning to end, in the full cut as a single story, and then switch over and watch 'That Yellow Bastard' and that's 45 minutes. It'll have all the material back in. So it'll be like the experience of picking up the book, where you pick up one story and you read it from beginning to end. And it'll have all the material in it. You can shuffle your own version of the movie and just watch them all separately.

"There are some things we cut out from there just to pace it for a feature because they weren't supposed to be three stories put together when Frank first wrote them; they were all separate books... Mickey Rourke doesn't go visit his mom now like he did in the book and get his gun and things like that, but we shot all that and it's all great stuff it just wasn't necessary for the feature... There are really terrific scenes, action scenes, I think it is gonna be somewhat revolutionary for people to see those kinds of scenes that were cut out and be put back in another format because they seem perfectly fine and they work, they just needed to be taken out for the long haul of the feature."

On top of that we have all become accustomed to Rodriguez's DVDs and the goodies they offer, "I'm gonna add on a twenty minute film school, probably for this one, because there's so many things and I want another ten-minute cooking school to be 'Sin City breakfast tacos.'"

On top of that there is a memorable scene with Frankie Boy (Benicio del Toro) and Dwight (Clive Owen), which happens to be the one scene in the film directed by Quentin Tarantino, that we will get a special look at on the DVD as Rodriguez says, "In fact there is one 16-minute take where I just kept rolling from the position of the real camera, it's not like behind-the-scenes, you get to see the whole process. You see Quentin actually come into frame and give direction. People are going to learn a lot from seeing that... an uninterrupted 16 minutes and you see pieces that we used and you see a lot of in between. You see Quentin coming in, you see the effects guys coming in and fixing [Benicio's] neck, it's exciting to see [the actors] be that creative on the spot and we're not cutting."
