by a true story,
North
Country follows the story of Josey Aimes (
Charlize
Theron) as she sets out on a journey to better her
life and the life of her two children. After leaving
her abusive husband she heads back to her hometown in
Northern Minnesota where she turns to the predominant
source of employment in the region – the iron mines.
The mines employ only a few females and when she
joins the workforce, laboring to blast ore from rock
in the gaping quarries, the life she she aimed to earn
finds more hardships than she ever could have imagined.
Coping with endless harassment from her male co-workers
proves insurmountable and when Josey speaks out against
the treatment she and her fellow workers face she is
met with resistance - not only from those in power
but even those she trusts the most.
As Josey's beliefs are tested no one was ready for
just how far she would go. Through these struggles
Josey will find the courage to stand up for what she
believes in – even if that means standing alone.
I had a chance to sit down with the lovely Charlize
Theron, her co-star Woody
Harrelson, the talented director Niki
Caro and screenwriter Michael Seitzman to talk
about North Country and more. Head into the
cold mines of Minnesota with me and find out what made
this production so special.
