The first three weeks of June really tones things down after such a stand out May, at least in terms of "spectacle" films as we have to wait until June 24 for the CG-driven robots of Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to take center stage, but that doesn't mean it's a month to overlook. As a matter of fact, that means it is most likely the month that will have many of the summer's best films.

Big name directors such as Sam Mendes (Away We Go), Francis Ford Coppola (Tetro), Woody Allen (Whatever Works), Stephen Frears (Cheri) and Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) all have films in June. I am personally looking forward to all five and have even seen Tetro and hope to catch it again as it makes its way to the Seattle International Film Festival.

June is also the first big summer month for comedy with such films as The Hangover from Warner Bros., Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell and the prehistoric comedy Year One starring Jack Black and Michael Cera. And along with Transformers, Tony Scott has Denzel Washington and John Travolta lined up for the month's other action spectacle with the remake The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.

Overall, June offers 14 films to preview so you better start clicking to get your fill.
