Fascinating Roundtable with Tarantino, Cameron, Jackson, Reitman, Bigelow and Daniels

There's nothing I wouldn't give up to be the one conducting this roundtable

A little while back I was asked if there were any specific actors I make a point of seeing all their upcoming films. I could answer a few, but more important to me are directors and there are several I could begin rattling off that if they made a movie I would do whatever it took to get a chance to see it as soon as possible and the list continues to grow almost daily. Just look at my list of interviews published last year… Kathryn Bigelow, Francis Ford Coppola and Marc Webb. Directors, that's where it's at and this three part video from The Hollywood Reporter featuring award season hopefuls Quentin Tarantino, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, Jason Reitman, Kathryn Bigelow and Lee Daniels is immensely entertaining and worth every minute of your time you spend watching it.

Part One
"Are you an insider or an outsider?"

Part Two
"What's the toughest scene to film?"

Part Three
"What would you do instead of directing?"

This was really cool… I hope there are more parts to it that will come our way soon. And who knew that Kathryn Bigelow was such a hottie? (obvisouly you knew Brad, since you interveiwed her, but I didn't know).

I do agree with Tarantino though. I'm not a film maker, but I am a photographer and though I use a digital camera mostly now a days, I too am a film purist and really hope that it never truly goes away. In either photography or film making. Because if it does, the term "Film maker"will just a be an "honorary" title. When people start filmimg solely on digital and never work with film, I don't think we can call them film makers anymore (I'm talking about those who will never film a movie with film, not the directors out there who have worked with both mediums)… and movie maker, just doesn't have a prestigous sound to it, at least in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, digital is great format and I accept it, it's doing a lot of good for the industry… but there is nothing like working with film. Film also provides for "happy accidents" that can make for interesting colors or images. All those things that are now replicated in the digital world… but i digress… sorry

Theses also made me miss that wonderful series on IFC, Dinner for Five with Jon Favreau… I need to track down the DVD of that show.

It's amazing to have the chance to see a bunch of great directors discussing their work, and being friendly towards each other. Usually it's just actors on interviews (at least the ones I see). "Fascinating" is the right word, Brad.

Plus, I love Peter Jackson's accent.

This is really cool. Never noticed how small Peter Jackson is before, but he looks like a dwarf next to Tarantino.

I felt that Cameron was pulling Quentin's leg…

and the most funny thing was on the second video when Bigelow was speaking..Quentin just ask Jackson once..if he can take from his glass….puts the maximum amount ih his glass…tat was also funny…..

@Danny: Ya..man…i agree with you…digital would be good…but then the term filmmaker would die…working with film is always a great experience…

I love when Quentin takes some of Peter Jackson's water in the second video. For some reason, that really cracked me up.

Thanks so much for posting that; the insider/outside question was great one to pose and the answers very revealing – is there any more?

That was awesome! And wow, Kathryn Bigelow is amazingly articulate.

This is was very cool. It's always nice to hear directors when they are discussing their profession and not just marketing their film.

It's interesting to see James Cameron and Katheryn Bigelow together. They seemed awkward around each other, being that they used to be married. I wonder if in the past at major film awards if two ex-spouses were competing against each other for best director.

Also Quentin Tarantino does have a strong point about digital. It is a good thing for the industry, but film must not become obsolete.

And, one has to admire how well these people can handle themselves in interviews. We can't see it, but there are a maybe 50 people around them with cameras and microphones. Plus they must know that their interviews are going to be seen by millions on the internet. It takes skill to be articulate under that pressure.
