Fans Get Grint's 'Cherrybomb' a Distribution Deal
I guess those online petitions sometimes actually work...
I'm curious now to see how far this will go, as it seems Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films) fans have secured a small victory as Cherrybomb has secured an undisclosed distributor in the UK following online fan petitioning reports the BBC.
The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and like many indies throughout 2010 it wasn't picked up by a distributor, but producers now tell the BBC a distribution deal has been signed, and the Belfast-set movie should be released in 2010.
Cherrybomb follows teenagers Luke (Robert Sheehan), Malachy (Grint) and Michelle (Kimberley Nixon) as they embark on a wild weekend of drink, drugs, shop-lifting and stealing cars. But what starts out as a game turns deadly serious when the three discover that they can't get off the wild ride they've set in motion.
The film's release date is not yet decided, but it was likely to be in UK cinemas during the first half of 2010. The film's sales agent, The Little Film Company, is also in negotiation with an American distributor.
I have added the not safe for work trailer directly below and for more on the petitions, Rupert Grint fansite Rupert-Grint.us has the full details.

OMG!!! FINALLY!!! I have been waiting for so long to see this film. I loooooooove Rupert Grint!!!
Hope it does for Grint what trainspotting did for McGregor!
Interesting. Grint may have a career as an actor afterall. This shows that he has talent, good instincts for roles and a good management team at the very least.
Hay, it has James Nesbitt in it. Awesome!
