Exclusive Clip from 'Adrift' Starring Vincent Cassel and Camilla Belle

Arriving On Demand on May 1

It's not often I get studio provided exclusives here on RopeofSilicon but every so often someone decides to throw me a bone. Now I can't say the clip below is mind-blowing. It doesn't feature the two actors mentioned in the headline (at least not in person) or even a line of dialogue, but I saw this as a chance for you to get a look at the work of a director with a bigger studio project coming up in the near future.

The clip comes from a film called Adrift and when I was first asked if I would be interested in the exclusive I couldn't remember ever even hearing of the film. So I did a quick search to see if I'd actually mentioned it on the site before. To my surprise... I had.

Back in April 2008 I posted a news blurb mentioning Camilla Belle (10,000 B.C.) as joining the cast opposite Vincent Cassel (Black Swan). It also turns out I could have seen it in Cannes last year as it was part of the Un Certain Regard selection. Had that been the case I could have actually pointed to a review of the film, but as it is I'll have to stick with the synopsis.

Adrift centers on a 14-year-old girl (Laura Neiva) who struggles with her life when she learns of the infidelities of her father (Vincent Cassel) while undergoing her own sexual awakening. Belle plays the woman Cassel is having an affair with and the clip I have for you features Neiva as she discovers a batch of photos of her father with Belle's character.

However, the main reason I found this film interesting was because of its director. Heitor Dhalia is a Brazilian director and following up Adrift he will direct Gone starring Amanda Seyfried (Red Riding Hood), Wes Bentley (American Beauty), Jennifer Carpenter ("Dexter") and Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The First Avenger).

Summit is already on board to distribute the thriller in which Seyfried plays a character named Jill who returns home from her night shift to find her sister's bed empty. She's been kidnapped and Jill is convinced the serial killer who kidnapped her two years ago has returned, and she sets out to once again face her abductor. Production begins in May from a script by Allison Burnett who co-wrote the upcoming Underworld: New Dawn and, the rather dreadful films, Untraceable and the Fame remake.

So I saw this as an opportunity to alert you to a chance to check out Dhalia's most recent film as Adrift hits On Demand tomorrow, May 1, if you were interested in having a frame of reference once Gone arrives.

I've included the trailer for Adrift above, the clip below and, below that, the synopsis. Have a look and let me know what you think.

Adrift is the sexy new thriller produced by Fernando Meirelles, Oscar-nominated director of City Of God and Focus’ Oscar-winning The Constant Gardener. Adrift is written and directed by Heitor Dhalia.

Wrestling with the truth, Filipa will soon discover that her father’s infidelity is only the first of many dark secrets that lurk beneath the surface of her seemingly perfect family
