EXCL: Kevin Sorbo and Carmen Electra Circling 'Art House Movie'
Have Sugar and Dia-blow been cast?
Last week we revealed the first two pages of the script for Art House Movie: There Will Be Farts. The silly scribblings had plenty of ways for the filmmakers to spoof such films as No Country for Old Men, Juno, There Will Be Blood and Once. Well, today we can exclusively tell you that two spoof regulars may be joining the production.
Kevin Sorbo and Carmen Electra are in final negotiations to play Antwone Sugar and Dia-blow Cody in the film. A storyline hasn't been revealed yet other than to say it will create a cohesive story made up of several art house pictures from recent years and films such as Cloverfield and United 93 may even be included (uh, isn't Uwe Boll already doing this with Postal?). We aren't saying it's perfect; we are just saying this is the word.
The status of the film is not 100-percent as of yet even though casting has begun. The fate of the film certainly lies in the hands of Sorbo and Electra should they finally sign, as well as the reaction to Superhero Movie! over this past weekend. The film performed mediocre numbers at best pulling in an estimated $9.5 million over the three days, but rumors have it that the mildly positive reviews the film received are easing tensions on moving forward with yet another spoof film.
Cinematical said of the film, "It ain't high art and it sure isn't "brilliant filmmaking," but the arrival of Craig Mazin's Superhero Movie is actually a (small) cause for (minimal) celebration."
Also, Film.com reports in their headline, "Superhero Movie Isn't Terrible OR Good."
These may not sound like your typical pull quotes, but considering the recent rash of poor spoof films, these are encouraging words. Personally I expect news that this film has been greenlit by tomorrow with word that both Sorbo and Electra are aboard, but don't go spreading too many rumors until I can confirm that.
